How to track clicks from influencers and partners with referral links

When three people promote your product, you want to know which of them actually sends visitors. The simplest way is one link for each person: they all lead to the same page, but each one is counted separately. With Referral Links you make those links in a minute, and the numbers show up as charts. Here is how to set it up and what to look at.
Before you start
Decide where the link should lead. It is usually your home page, a sign-up page or one product page. You can put the person's name in the address too (for example ?ref=alice) if your own site also wants to know who sent a visitor.
Creating a link costs a few credits and saving a change costs one. The clicks themselves are free and always counted, and every plan starts with a few links.
Make a link for each person
- Open Referral Links and choose Create a link.
- Name it after the person or the campaign, for example Alice (Instagram). Only you see the name.
- Choose the link code, the short last part of the address. It is filled in from the name, and you can change it.
- Paste the address the link should open and create it.
- Copy the link and send it to the person. They put it in their bio, video description, post or newsletter.
Read the numbers
Open a link to see its chart. Every plan shows the total number of clicks since the link was made, the clicks in the period you pick and a chart of clicks per day. A sudden jump on one day usually means a post went out.
Expert and Business plans also show unique visitors, the countries and cities people clicked from, their devices, browsers and systems, the sites they clicked from (for example instagram.com or a newsletter tool), the busiest hours of the day and the latest clicks.
What gets counted
- People, not robots: search crawlers, the previews that chat apps make when a link is pasted, scripts and pages loaded in advance are sent on without being counted.
- Visitor addresses are never stored in full. The last part is hidden before anything is saved, and unique visitors are counted from an anonymous code.
- Country and city come from the visitor's address and are good estimates, not exact positions. A phone on mobile data may show the city of its provider.
Use your own domain
On the Business plan you can show your links on your own address, such as go.yourcompany.com/alice. Add the subdomain in Referral Links, set the DNS records it shows and check them. Every link of your account can then live on that domain, and links on it can reuse the same code as links on the main site.
Try it yourself
Start free: new accounts get credits, and the free plan tops them up every week.
Questions about this guide
- Can I change where a link leads later?
- Yes. The link stays the same and the new target is used from the next click. The old clicks stay in the chart.
- What if two people use the same link?
- Then their clicks are counted together. Make one link for each person to keep them apart.
- Do I need to add anything to my website?
- No. The clicks are counted before the visitor reaches your page, so nothing has to be installed.
