How to turn a CSV or Google Sheet into a PDF report by email

5 min read · Updated October 21, 2026

If you rebuild the same report from a spreadsheet every Monday, you can stop. Point Auto Reports at the data once, choose the numbers to show and it produces a web report and a PDF, then emails it on the schedule you pick. This guide walks through the setup from the data link to the first email.

Get your data to a link

A report reads from an address that returns the data: a Google Sheet, a CSV file or a JSON link. For a Google Sheet, share it so anyone with the link can view it, or use File, Share, Publish to the web and choose CSV, then copy the link. Auto Reports never stores your raw rows, only the finished numbers and chart points of each run.

Build the report

  1. Paste the link: Auto Reports reads the columns of your data and shows a preview.
  2. Pick the numbers: for each number choose what to calculate from a column, such as the sum, average, count, minimum, maximum or the latest value.
  3. Choose how it looks: start from a template or from scratch, and add charts such as a trend line or a breakdown.
  4. Compare periods: pick a date column and a period (the last 7, 30 or 90 days, this month, quarter or year so far) and each number is compared with the period before or with the same period last year.
  5. Run it: you get the web report and a PDF straight away, so you can check it before anyone else sees it.

Send it on a schedule

Schedule the report every day, on the weekdays you pick or every month, in your own time. It is emailed to you with the PDF attached. On paid plans you can add teammates and clients as recipients: each of them confirms first and can unsubscribe, so you never email anyone who did not agree.

Running a report and each scheduled run cost a few credits, and the price is shown before you confirm.

Add alerts and share it

On paid plans you can set an alert on any number: above or below a value, or a rise or drop of more than a percentage. When a run crosses it you get a message in your inbox and an email, which turns the report into an early warning.

A share link lets anyone without an account see the latest report and download the PDF. Expert and Business plans can show their own logo instead of ours.

Questions about this guide

Does my spreadsheet stay private?
Only the finished numbers and chart points of each run are kept, for 30 days on the free plan and up to a year on paid plans. Your raw rows are never saved, and access headers are stored encrypted.
Can I use a JSON API as the source?
Yes. Any address that returns CSV or JSON works, and you can add a header such as a token when the data needs one.
